So last night was totally not cool. My neighbors were doing
things in the area between our apartment doors that were totally not cool and,
due to the craptastic weather stripping around my door, I got to experience it
all with them.
I had to work for most of the day today, but when I got off
at 9:30, and realized Home Depot was open until 10, I rushed over there and
bought a weather stripping kit and a fancy door sweep (the bottom piece). Then,
because my neighbors are already super annoying and my non-obnoxious neighbors
appear to be out of town, I went ahead and installed it at 11 at night.

When I went to remove the old weather stripping, I ended up
raining pollen down over myself and discovered that the quality craftsmanship
in my apartment also includes the use of nails, caulk, and masking tape to
install weather stripping… you know, the kind that fits into a precut groove?
Yeah. I ended up having to use Goo Gone, a knife, and a hammer to get that
stuff down.
What a workout! And getting a face full of pollen and several years worth of ick left me extremely red in the face. |
After cleaning everything up, the new one went up without
any problems. The door sweep took a little more effort since the holes weren't
in the same spots so I had to find my drill bits (they had wandered off) and
then drill pilot holes to get it all installed. But now I don't see light
around all sides of my door when it's closed. Yay!
